Two people were killed Wednesday in an early morning crash that shut down part of the Ted Williams Tunnel.

Route 1A northbound was reopened by 7 a.m., according to state Department of Transportation spokeswoman Jacquelyn Goddard.

A Subaru Legacy and a Hampton Inn shuttle van collided around 1:15 a.m. on Route 1A north, just past the Ted Williams Tunnel.

Two passengers of the hotel shuttle bus were ejected from their vehicle and pronounced dead on scene.

After impact, policy say the bus veered left, striking a barrier, then right, striking another barrier.

The man and woman are not being identified at his time, but troopers described both people as being from out-of-state. The Swampscott man driving the vehicle was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 57-year-old El Paso woman, whose name was not released, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries and as of Wednesday afternoon remained at the hospital, police said.

The crash remains under investigation to determine if criminal charges will be sought.
