A plane went down in a fiery crash in East Hartford, Connecticut Tuesday afternoon.

The pilot was transported to St. Francis Hospital, East Hartford Fire Chief John Oates said.

Pratt and Whitney, a jet engine manufacturer, said the crash does not appear to involve any of its employees or contractors.

Police said at a briefing shortly before 5 p.m. that access to the area of the crash would be limited for several hours as local roads will remain closed.

Police said the plane, which left from Brainard Airport, was in pieces, and telephone poles and wires are down. Check with local authorities on the condition of the two people on board.
