Singer Phil Collins announces comeback gigs for next summer

Singer Phil Collins announces comeback gigs for next summer

As for performing again after, bar three charity events, almost a decade away, the prospect is a positive one, it seems.

"I thought I would retire quietly", said Collins of his return. He has since hinted many times about going back to work - but only officially confirmed it Monday.

McCartney was accompanied by then-wife Heather Mills. Featuring the hit record "In the Air Tonight" he later went on to enjoy success with a string of hits including "Easy Lover", "You Can't Hurry Love" and "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)". "That would be something that I think I should do", Phil revealed this morning at the announcement of his tour.

'McCartney was one of my heroes. "I'm actually the complete opposite of that".

The tour is aptly called "Not Dead Yet Live", named after his autobiography Not Dead Yet which will be released this week.

Collins, who retired from playing live back in 2002 because of injuries to his back and arms, has announced five shows at London's iconic Royal Albert Hall (via NME).

The 65-year-old, whose hits include In The Air Tonight and Another Day In Paradise, has spoken openly about his struggle with alcoholism since his last tour nearly 10 years ago. He also said "I am stopping so I can be a full time father to my two young sons on a daily basis". He quit the industry to spend more time with his family. I didn't have anyone to go home to.

More news: Pence has no plans to quit

They married in Switzerland in 1999 but split in 2006 and divorced two years later and he started drinking heavily.

Collins, who enjoyed more United Kingdom top 40 singles than any other artist of the 1980s, first came to prominence as the drummer and then frontman of Genesis.

He changed his mind about retiring because his children are older and they "want me to go out on the road and do my thing".

The In The Air Tonight singer, who started out his career as the drummer of 1970s progressive rock band Genesis, retired from music five years ago after nerve damage left him unable to play the drums.

He told Sky News his teenage son Nick, who also plays the drums, is ready to step in and will tour with him.
