Anil Baijal takes oath as Delhi Lieutenant Governor

Asked to comment on the continuous turf war between the Aam Aadmi Party government and the Lt-Governor's office, Baijal said, "We will sit down and talk".

Former Union Home Secretary Anil Baijal on Saturday took oath as Lieutenant Governor (L-G) of Delhi. "We look forward to work together for Delhi's development".

Baijal, a 1969-batch Indian Administrative Service officer, retired from service in 2006.

Baijal said he will put his best efforts in improving law-and-order situation, women's safety, traffic congestion, besides strengthening civic amenities in the city. As Union Home Secretary, he had been shifted to the Urban Development Ministry in a rejig after the UPA government came to power in 2004.

Presently, Baijal is associated with the Vivekananda International Foundation. Jung tendered his resignation on December 22, a year-and-a-half before his tenure was expected to end.About the road ahead, Baijal said, "I hope to work for the betterment of Delhi with the elected government. I hope that this work will be expedited", Kejriwal said at an event at Delhi Assembly complex later in the day.

Accusing Mr Jung of being the "Centre's agent", Mr Kejriwal had alleged that the BJP-led Central government was carrying on a proxy war with the Delhi government through him. Anil Baijal was appointed to the LG Post on December 28 when President Pranab Mukherjee accepted the former LG Najeeb Jung's resignation.
