Accused Orlando Cop Killer Markeith Loyd Claims Innocence, Curses at Judge

Accused Orlando Cop Killer Markeith Loyd Claims Innocence, Curses at Judge

Lt. Debra Clayton, 42, was shot and killed January 9 outside a Walmart while trying to make contact with Markeith Loyd, who was wanted in the shooting death of his pregnant ex-girlfriend.

Orlando police announced the capture of Markeith Loyd, who is accused of fatally shooting his pregnant ex-girlfriend and an Orlando police officer.

Orlando Police Department has released infrared video of police finding and arresting Markeith Loyd. At the time, he was already wanted in the shooting death of his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Sade Dixon, and injuring her brother who tried to help.

In all, investigators said 16 shots were fired over the course of about six seconds - eight by Loyd and eight by Clayton, the warrant said. "First of all, I have a question to ask", he says to the judge.

Loyd made his first court appearance Thursday and let loose with several profanities in addressing the judge.

He was injured by officers while being taken into custody and Orlando Police Chief John Mina said a use-of-force investigation is being done, although no officer has been placed on leave.

- Bond was denied Thursday for the suspect in last week's deadly shooting of an Orlando police officer.

Loyd says the portrayals in the media that he quote "just shot [Dixon]" put his family in danger. He is expected back in court Friday in relation to the new charges, which include murder of a law enforcement officer, attempted first-degree murder with a firearm, armed carjacking, wearing a bulletproof vest while committing a felony and aggravated assault.

When asked at a press conference if kicking the suspect was necessary, Mina said, "The officers were very concerned about what was underneath him". He was hospitalized overnight. "After they handcuffed him, and searched him, pulled off his body armor, he had a large bag of ammunition". He said authorities didn't know how long Loyd been in the house, which was abandoned but does have ties to associates of his.

The individual told Clayton that while she was in line to check out, she realized Loyd was standing behind her, investigators said. At the point when Orange County Judge Jeanette Bigney advised him that what he said was under pledge and being recorded, he reacted, "I'm not finished talking because y'all been making up s- the whole time".

Mina said the best-trained officers and the SWAT team were called in to make the arrest.
