Some 'notable' absentees from Oscar's nomination list

Some 'notable' absentees from Oscar's nomination list

The official website for the Oscars issued an apology for mistakenly including Tom Hanks and Amy Adams in this year's nominations.

Sources say Adams wasn't aware she'd been listed as a nominee until after the mistake was corrected.

Lin-Manuel Miranda's nomination in the best song category for "How Far I'll Go" from "Moana" puts him on the brink of the rare, coveted EGOT.

A social media campaign spread calling for #JusticeForAmyAdams after she was snubbed in the nominations; Arrival director Denis Villeneuve said he was left "profoundly sad" that Adams missed out.

Nominees for the world's most prominent film awards - the Oscars - are being announced in Hollywood this morning. ABC Digital quickly corrected the list and apologized, but not before giving momentary false hope to those who thought Adams might have been included after all.

ABC Digital has claimed full responsibility for the blunder, going on to apologise for any confusion caused with a statement.

If this year's Oscars ceremony is as bad as the nominations process, then it promises to be even worse than last year's #Oscarssowhite debacle.

Per Deadline, the re-release of Arrival will come packing eight minutes of exclusive bonus footage featuring Villeneuve, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and other cast and filmmakers. After starring in box office smash Arrival as well as Nocturnal Animals, Adams appeared destined to snag her sixth nomination-thereby tying Deborah Kerr and Glenn Close for the performer who'd gotten the most nominations ever without winning.

Forbes writer Scott Mendelson recently published an article that explains beautifully why the Amy Adams "snubbing" was so disappointing. This includes stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in the lead acting categories and a nomination in every single technical category for which it was eligible. As for Hanks, the two-time Oscar victor was put in the category for his "Sully' performance, making him the sixth nominee when there should only be five". The screenplay, cinematography, production design, editing and sound are also shortlisted for possible prizes.

ABC is televising the 89th Academy Awards on February 26 with host Jimmy Kimmel.
