The Next Major PlayStation 4 Update Will Finally Bring External HDD Support

The Next Major PlayStation 4 Update Will Finally Bring External HDD Support

If the new Sony update is still in beta at the moment, it should allow players to boost the capabilities of their PS4 Pro more.

For a look at the performance boost this new feature will reportedly provide, check out this comparison video from YouTube user Noel Underson that offers a look at The Evil Within running with and without Boost Mode.

Polygon's report revealed the PS4 Pro is getting a "Boost Mode" to improve game performance, regardless if they were designed specifically for the PS4 Pro or not. It will enable those games to run faster and smoother on the most powerful PlayStation that Sony has ever released.

Sony announced its upcoming 4.50 software update for the PS4 and PS4 Pro, which introduces a number of new features to the consoles. "Games with The frequency of refresh is variable can benefit from a better fluidity and the loading times can also decrease in some cases ".

"Boost Mode" can be found in the PS4 Pro's settings menu.

The update also adds external hard disk drive (HDD) support to the console, so that users can plug USB 3.0 HDDs of up to 8TB in size into their PS4 to store additional content.

Right now, the PS4 4.50 update is in beta testing and currently we are in the second phase of this or beta 2. When activated for specific games, it "lets PS4 Pro run at a higher GPU and CPU clock speed in order to improve gameplay on some PS4 games that were released before the launch of PS4 Pro", the company said.

While all PS4 owners will benefit from firmware v4.50's external hard drive support and tweaks to the interface and notifications, Pro users also have a new "Boost Mode". Unfortunately, not all games can deliver a PS4 Pro patch. We already recommend it to anyone looking at a new PS4 purchase - even those that don't own a 4K TV - and this new feature only reinforces that recommendation.
