Facebook Weather Updates Introduced on App and Website

Facebook Weather Updates Introduced on App and Website

Facebook has come up with another way to convince users to stay within the social networking app, recently introducing a complete weather forecast section that uses Global Positioning System location to present a detailed 24-hour and 5-day forecast, powered by Weather.com (via TechCrunch).

Facebook has also introduced an option to get the weather notifications. You can tap the settings icon at the top right of the display to add additional locations, and change the temperature to either Fahrenheit or Celsius.

Fortunately, it's somewhat easy to go directly to that weather information, that is if you have Facebook on your smartphone. Weather data is provided by Weather.com and includes highs, lows and general conditions.

Powered by Weather.com, it gives you a full forecast of the coming week.

According to a company spokesperson, who spoke to TechCrunch, the goal behind the feature is "to develop products that connect people to the things they care about most".

Facebook is doubling down on weather reporting with an in-built app that provides personalised forecasts. You might need to wait a couple more days if you still do not see the new weather section in the Facebook app. The new feature is an extension on that. You no longer have to leave Facebook to find out. Desktop users can find the weather in the shortcuts side-bar on the News Feed. Click "Start Order" to get started. Facebook has stated that the News Feed "greetings" will be displayed on both desktop and mobile.

This week the company is rolling out a few updates to help make sure you don't get caught in the rain.

The cute, cartoon-style heading at the top of the page also will update based on the forecast. Facebook also works with Ticketmaster and Eventbrite so people can buy tickets to events directly from the event page. It would be found in the place where users can see options such as Friends, Groups, Events and more.
