Ben Affleck 'doesn't want to be Batman anymore'

"Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" was not well-received by critics, nor was "Suicide Squad", in which he briefly appeared as Batman.

A report on Collider Movie Talk has fuelled rumours that the Oscar victor is done with playing the Caped Crusader, and does not want to star in the stand-alone film, The Batman. After taking the public on an emotional roller coaster, Affleck dropped out of directing the movie that will focus on his version of the Caped Crusader.

While War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves is frontrunner for directer, Ridley Scott is apparently "in the wings" too, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Explaining what he had heard from those allegedly in the know, he added, "What has come out of the conversation with all three was this".

John Campea said on the show that at least three sources associated with the franchise and Warner Bros, which produce the DC movies, have approached him about Affleck's future with the franchise. They're telling me that, Ben Affleck, make no mistake, he does want out.

"He doesn't want to be Batman anymore", he said.

There is no official release date for the new Batman film yet, but its original 2018 target date is looking increasingly unlikely.

Perhaps the best thing for fans to do at this stage is to give Affleck some breathing room, and attempt not to hassle him for commentary on social media. Additionally, Reeves' background in big-scale sci-fi movies might mean that we can finally get a big-screen live-action Batman that isn't "grounded" or "realistic" once again. Storylines will overlap, all leading up to team up films, Justice League 1 later this year and Justice League 2, likely in 2019. Last summer, Affleck was the one who tweeted out Deathstroke footage that turned into Joe Managaniello officially joining DC's Extended Universe as Deathstroke, who would be the villain in the next Batman movie.

Last August (16) Patty Jenkins, the director of forthcoming female fronted installment Wonder Woman, was forced to deny claims made in an open letter, allegedly written by a former Warner Bros employee, that her film was "a mess".
