Half-brother of dictator Kim Jong Un is assassinated

Half-brother of dictator Kim Jong Un is assassinated

Furthermore, Fox News is reporting that Kim Jong-Nam was allegedly stabbed by two unidentified women with "poisoned needles".

Malaysian police officers stand outside Putrajaya Hospital, outside Kuala Lumpur, where the body of Kim Jong Un's brother was initially brought.

Jong Nam "felt like someone grabbed or held his face from behind", Malaysian police official Fadzil Ahmat told Reuters.

South Korea's TV Chosun, a cable television network, said Kim was poisoned at Kuala Lumpur airport by two women believed to be DPRK operatives, who were at large, citing multiple South Korean government sources. Police are treating the case as "sudden death", Malaysian newspaper Oriental Daily reported. Hwang, who had been one of the leading ideologues of the North's isolationist regime, escaped to South Korea in 1997. But the Malaysian official said the autopsy was still continuing. It was not immediately clear whether the passport was genuine.

"Kim Jong Un is cruel and cold-blooded but this [assassination] only shows how insecure his political power stands", noted Kim Do Yeon, a college student.

There is no word as to whether police are searching for more suspects.

These details come after the South Korean news agency Yonhap and other media outlets in the country reported that Kim Jong-Nam had been assassinated, CBS notes.

CNN reports that the Selangor State Criminal Investigations Department said that Kim Jong-Nam fell ill at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia.

The agency quoted a Seoul government source as saying Kim Jong-Nam was killed on Monday.

"I ask for you to cancel the punishment order on me and my family. We clearly know that the only way to run away is to commit suicide", the letter said. "We are still looking for a few suspects, they are all still in Malaysia".

The killing comes as North Korea celebrated its latest missile launch, which foreign experts were analysing for evidence of advancement in the country's missile capabilities.

Once tipped as the likely future leader of North Korea, Kim was the eldest son of former supreme leader Kim Jong-il - in power between 1994 and his death in 2011. It's unclear what positon he has in the North Korean government. North Korea has sought to draw in Malaysian tourists, and also imports goods including palm oil from the country. Kim was the half brother of Kim Jong Un, who was born in 1985.

"I was raised getting special love from the aunt and uncle and I am not denying that they are even now taking special care of me", Kim Jong Nam said in a note written to Gomi before his uncle was killed.
