Pruitt's EPA confirmation vote expected today

At Pruitt's confirmation hearing he affirmed EPA's authority to regulate pollutants like carbon and mercury under the Clean Air Act, though he filed lawsuits challenging the law as Oklahoma attorney general.

Collins did say, however, she would vote to invoke cloture on Pruitt's nomination, which would help clear him from the threat of a filibuster.

While Republican Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, called the insistence on seeing the emails "ridiculous" and that Pruitt is "the most thoroughly vetted nominee we've ever had to lead this agency", Democrats questioned why the emails are being so closely guarded. Judge Timmons asked Pruitt's office to release the mails either to the court or to the advocacy group by Tuesday (21 February). Pruitt declined to provide the documents, but suggested that Democrats submit public records requests to the state attorney general's office.

Trump's pick to run the EPA, Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, is scheduled to face a Senate confirmation vote on Friday, according to a Senate aide, after a contentious hearing last month in which lawmakers pressed Pruitt on his ties to the oil industry.

Carper said Democrats have no "predetermined expectations", and that they're simply looking for more information about Pruitt's time as attorney general. The 411 emails were only released in mid-February despite the group filing its request nearly two years ago.

A vote to confirm Pruitt is expected later this week.

Pushing the vote on Scott Pruitt back by a few days in order to review these documents should be an easy call for the Senate. Almost all 52 Republicans, except Senator Susan Collins, who announced her opposition on Wednesday, are expected to vote for him.

Manchin and Heitkamp are bucking their party, which has overwhelmingly come out against Pruitt who they say will eliminate environmental protections.

The second source said attendees at the meeting were told Trump would sign between two and five executive orders. "We were stonewalled for a little over two years and chose to file suit on February 7", CMD said.

"Today, Senator Collins took a stand for families across ME by opposing this risky nomination that would be a threat to our clean air, clean water, and public health", Glen Brand, director of the group's ME chapter, said in a statement.

Since 2002, Pruitt has received more than $300,000 in contributions from the fossil fuel industry, and on his LinkedIn page, he lists himself as "a leading advocate against the EPA's activist agenda".
