GSP Is Now Officially Back In The UFC

White told the Times that St-Pierre had also talked about dropping down to lightweight (155 pounds), a division that now belongs to mega-star (The Notorious) Conor McGregor.

According to LA Times reporter Lance Pugmire, Dana White signed St-Pierre back to the UFC. St-Pierre said talks about his return broke down when the new WME-IMG ownership group became involved following the purchase of UFC in the summer for approximately $4 billion.

"He's back. I'm excited", said White after the lengthy negotiations were finalized.

Tyron told us he's looking forward to polishing Thompson off and proving their last fight (which ended in a draw) was a fluke. but beyond that, he's got some bigger things to prove. St-Pierre had even enter the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency testing pool in August, so that he could be eligible for a potential December date in Toronto.

GSP vacated his title at UFC 167 to take time away from the sport but voiced his desire to return previous year. He answered that setback by defeating Serra in April 2008.

When asked about potential opponents for St-Pierre, White said: "It could be the victor [of the March 4 welterweight title fight] between Tyron Woodley and Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson, or it could be [middleweight champion] Michael Bisping". St-Pierre's last fight came against Johny Hendrix when he successfully defended his welterweight championship at UFC 167 in November 2013. There have also been rumors for months that Nick Diaz would return to action if he was able to secure a rematch with St-Pierre, who defeated him in 2013.

One of the major stumbling blocks was understood to be St-Pierre's contract with Under Armour, a rival of Reebok, who have signed a sponsorship deal with the UFC since the Canadian star last competed. He and middleweight champion Michael Bisping have recently indicated an interest in fighting one another. He says he can make the weight.

White said two friends of St-Pierre whom he refused to identify played a key role in brokering an agreement to bring St-Pierre back. Hours later, the UFC responded and claimed that he remained under contract.

The UFC could use St-Pierre, with McGregor awaiting the birth of his child and Ronda Rousey's future up in the air.
