Whittier Police Officer Dead, 1 Officer Injured In Shootout With Suspect

The shooting happened around 8 a.m., police officer John Scoggins told the Whittier Daily News.

A police officer responding to a vehicle crash was killed Monday outside Los Angeles, and a second officer was wounded, according to investigators.

A Southern California police officer was killed and a second officer was hurt in a shooting that also injured a suspect early Monday morning, officials said.

The officers, who had not yet been identified, approached the suspected gunman's auto completely unaware that it was stolen. The two officers were transported to UCI Medical Center while the suspect was taken to LA County-USC Medical Center, Marrujo said.
