Lakers trade Lou Williams to Rockets for Corey Brewer, first-round pick

Lakers trade Lou Williams to Rockets for Corey Brewer, first-round pick

Williams will fit in well with Houston's up-tempo system.

Williams has traded to the Rockets on Tuesday in exchange for Corey Brewer and an unprotected 2017 first-round pick, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo!

Giving up Williams could be worth it depending on how the team handles their 2017 first round draft pick.

The former Houston Rocket, Brewer is also 30-years-old, and is shooting just over four points a game on average.

For the Lakers, it seems like there could have been better deals floating around the league. Losing one of those pinches a little, but they see an open window right now with how well the team has performed and they want to capitalize.

And while the draft pick will help the Lakers' future, the Rockets just got deeper.

Daryl Morey has surrounded James Harden with another shooter, and it's evident that they are fully invested in their "live by the three, die by the three" play style.

Williams had been performing at a high level for the Lakers, scoring a career-high 18.6 PPG off the bench. In addition, the transaction will allow Williams to capitalize on his offensive firepower for a playoff contender as opposed to a tanking team in need of keeping its lottery pick. He is under contract for $7 million next season.

Which team besides the Wizards are being said to be interested in a Lakers trade for the sixth man Williams?

With the trades almost coming to a close, everyone will have to play to their strengths, and the Lakers will have to do it decisively. Williams expires at the end of next season, but he's going to be really useful over the time they have him, and he's easily moveable if he underperforms for any reason next year. He doesn't move the needle enough toward Cleveland territory to justify sending out a precious chance at nabbing a cheap young player.

The trade came hours after the Lakers announced the firing of general manager Mitch Kupchak and put Johnson in charge of basketball operations - part of a massive front office shake-up.

Like Williams, Brewer has a year left on his contract after this season.
