After returning to her auto and finding Jacob, the woman got him out of the vehicle and carried him to a dialysis center in the shopping center. Medical personnel inside the facility attempted to render aid until fire rescue arrived. He died later that afternoon after being taken to a local hospital.

The day care described Jacob as a "sweet little boy" who loved to give hugs and had a "remarkable laugh". Jacob died in a vehicle where he was forgotten in. Investigators say her mistake cost her 2-year-old brother his life. "We remind ourselves, we remind our family, we remind our people that pick up our kids - look back there and check".

Deputies said the boy's half sister was very upset. "We feel confident in this statement as an intentional act of cruelty would not be within her means", the statement said. It's unclear if the boy was enrolled in the day care. "Trying to find the parents". Detectives are now interviewing Jacob's half-sister and any other potential witnesses along with gathering any physical evidence.

"This is everyone's worst nightmare", said Larry McKinnon, spokesperson for the Hillsborough sheriff's office, according to NBC affiliate WFLA. Investigators will also be reviewing Jacob's prior history, including any calls for service at the residence in Brandon where the child lived.
