France issues terror attack warning post shooting at school

France issues terror attack warning post shooting at school

There are conflicting reports that a second shooter may have been involved - with a police source telling Reuters that another student, who is also armed, remains on the run.

Anti-terrorist commandos from the elite Raid force were sent to the area.

Anti-terror police swooped on the scene, as the French government issued a terror warning for the entire country.

A 17-year-old man carrying a rifle, handguns and grenades was arrested, he was not known by the police according to French broadcaster BFMTV.

The government minister for victims affairs, Juliette Meadel, said via social media that all students were safe, adding her thoughts were with the parents of the two people injured in the attack.

The school shooting comes as France continues to operate under a state of emergency following a number of terror attacks in the past two years.

"I went to close the windows and saw a guy who looked at me in the eyes". Education authorities said all schools in Grasse have been locked down.

Grasse prosecutor, Fabienne Atzori later excluded any terrorist involvement and said the motives of the shooter "seem to be related to the bad relations he has with other students" at the school.

Grasse prosecutor Fabienne Atzori told reporters that the teenager had difficulties integrating in the school and had bad relations with some of his classmates.

In a separate incident, a letter bomb exploded yesterday at the International Monetary Fund's offices in Paris and left at least one person "lightly wounded", according to local police. It is not clear whether the incidents are linked.
