Mobile 'ghost calling' glitch causing long 911 hold times in Dallas

Mobile 'ghost calling' glitch causing long 911 hold times in Dallas

According to the city, the paralysis creeps in like so: Legitimate 911 calls by T-Mobile customers somehow spark repeated subsequent hang-up calls to the emergency center.

The mayor had no answer, but shared with Taffet the same condolences he gave Bridget Alex, the mother of the 6-month-old baby: "My heart is broken for the loss of a loved one, and I'm sorry for you as well", the mayor said.

"If you've got a T-Mobile phone service, be very, very careful because you may not be able to get into 911", Dallas mayor Mike Rawlings said. The rogue calls clog up the lines for hours at a time. On March 11, the night little Brandon Alex died; the glitch left 442 callers on hold for an average of 38 minutes. The sitter was reportedly on hold for more than 30 minutes.

Now, the devastated mom had learned why the sitter's 911 call never went through, and she's blaming the city for her son's death.

Howard also said she feels for the family and the dispatcher in Dallas.

T-Mobile has sent its top engineers to Dallas to fix with the city calls a life-threatening problem with its mobile phones.

Ironically, Baby Brandon's mother, Bridget Alex, was at her nephew's funeral when her infant's babysitter called to tell her that he had fallen and would not wake up.

The spikes seem to vary in time and intensity, aren't consistent across all T-Mobile devices, and raise a host of other questions that make it hazy as to whether this is a technical glitch, a malicious prank, or something else entirely.

Emergency policy dictates that 911 operators respond to every hang up call.

"The last time she called, they had her on hold for 31 minutes", Alex said. "I want the problem solved immediately and if it takes longer I want to know why".

The calls then appear on a dispatcher's screen as hang-ups. "They are not answering their phones'".

The babysitter made the first call at 5:55 p.m lasting 55 seconds. But in a press conference Wednesday, he said the city was working closely with T-Mobile engineers to resolve the issue. The Dallas Police Department is investigating after the boy's caretaker dialed 911 on Saturday evening, but was unable to get through. I want to be at home playing with my son.

We've reached out to T-Mobile for additional information and will update this post should it arrive.

"Because at the end of the day, my son was still breathing, but had y'all come out like y'all were supposed to, my son would still be here in my arms", she added.
