Vikings officially shut the door on Peterson: Adrian will move on elsewhere

Latavius Murray isn't anxious about the Vikings run game struggles last season; he's focused exclusively on the way he can help improve Minnesota's offense in 2017.

In a move that should officially mark the end of Adrian Peterson's time in Minnesota, the Vikings announced late last night that they had agreed to terms with former Oakland Raiders running back, Latavius Murray, who had visited the team on Tuesday. The Vikings did not pick up the option on Peterson's contract and, on Thursday, confirmed they would be moving on from him.

Peterson has met with the Seahawks but they signed Eddie Lacy.

With Murray taking over, Peterson is not expected to be re-signed.

Peterson is the leading rusher in Vikings history and ranks 16th in National Football League history with 11,747 yards in 10 seasons.

Peterson, however, is 31, and running backs - even the best ones - can rapidly go downhill at that age.

In 2016, Peterson played just three games and carried only 37 times for 72 yards, a 1.9-yard average.

"I've worked with Coach Sparano, and I trust in his process and getting the guys ready", Murray said.

Murray rushed for 2,194 yards on 175 carries his senior season en route to being named the New York State Class D player of the year.

Peterson is still a free agent, and a reunion with the Vikings has always been considered a possibility for the running back.

"When I saw that maybe this could be a team I would be playing for, obviously you think about those different scenarios", Murray said. I'm not here to be #28, there's no one like him. Murray, took to his Instagram account in his first few hours as a Viking to make it clear how much respect he has for the number and for the man he is likely replacing.
