Greenblatt Has 3-Hour Meeting With Netanyahu Before Leaving

"This afternoon I will meet again with U.S. President [Donald] Trump's envoy, Jason Greenblatt", Netanyahu said in a statement.

"We are in talks with the White House and our intention is to reach an agreed policy for building in settlements which is agreeable to us, not only to the Americans", Netanyahu said.

At the end of the Netanyahu-Greenblatt meeting, a joint statement was released that included one of the principles regarding settlement construction that had already been agreed on. "This is another expression of the discriminatory policies of Netanyahu", Peretz said on Facebook on Friday. In February, the Israeli Supreme Court ruled that the settlement is illegal as it is built on privately-owned Palestinian land.

No mention was made of Netanyahu's reiteration of his promise earlier in the day to build a new community in Yehudah and Shomron for the Amona outpost evacuees, or of Greenblatt's reaction to it.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday (16 March) that he would honour his commitment to rebuild the demolished West Bank settlement.

Greenblatt has already met with settler leaders which included members from Samaria Regional Council and Efrat Council.

"Of course, this will help Israel after a period of many years during which we were not involved in such processes".

During Greenblatt's second meeting with Netanyahu on Thursday, which lasted three hours, the two politicians failed to reach a concrete agreement. The American envoy also paid visits to the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and to King Abdullah in Amman, Jordan.

Israel occupied the West Bank and Gaza Strip in the 1967 Mideast War and has been controlling them ever since, despite worldwide condemnations. Some 385,000 Israeli settlers live in the West Bank which is also home to 2.8 million Palestinians. Israel disagrees, citing historical and political links to the land, as well as security interests. Another 200,000 Israelis live in East Jerusalem.

"Representatives from Yesha have met with (former USA secretary of state) John Kerry and others on the sidelines of events, but we have not had official meetings like this", a spokesman said.
