Islamic Regret UN report withdrawal on Israel Apartheid

Islamic Regret UN report withdrawal on Israel Apartheid

Nasrallah said in a televised speech on Saturday that the incident served as a reminder of the "truth of this organisation, that it's weak. and it succumbs to the will of the United States and Israel".

Palestine Liberation Organization has criticized the United Nations for censoring a report on Israeli crimes against Palestinians.

"Such a report constitutes a step in the right direction and highlights the true reality on the ground which is one of apartheid, ethnic cleansing and military occupation", she added.

"It was expected, naturally, that Israel and its allies would exercise enormous pressure on the United Nations secretary-general to distance himself from the report and to ask for it to be withdrawn", she said.

NGOs, grassroots, and even Lebanon's Hizbollah, voiced support for outgoing UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia's (ESCWA) top official, Rima Khalaf, in her dispute with UN chief over her organisation's report on Israel's "apartheid".

On Wednesday, following the report's release, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said it was published without any prior consultations with the UN Secretariat and its views do not reflect those of the secretary-general.

"I do not find it surprising that such member states, who now have governments with little regard for global norms and values of human rights, will resort to intimidation when they find it hard to defend their unlawful policies and practices", Khalaf, a Jordanian national, wrote to Guterres.

Israel fiercely rejects the allegation and likened the report to Der Sturmer - a Nazi propaganda publication that was strongly anti-Semitic.

The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), which comprises 18 Arab states, published the report on Wednesday (March 15) and said it was the first time a United Nations body had clearly made the charge.

"This is not about content, this is about process", Dujarric told reporters in NY on Friday.

Ofir Gendelman, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's spokesman, said on Twitter Abbas was waging "a diplomatic war on Israel" by announcing the award, describing the report as "libelous and false".

United States envoy to the UN Nikki Haley, who had demanded the report's withdrawal last week, said in a statement: "When someone issues a false and defamatory report in the name of the U.S., it is appropriate that the person resign. And it is available".
