Earth Hour 2017 Brings Global Blackout

Earth Hour 2017 Brings Global Blackout

Emblematic buildings and monuments will be in the dark today, including the Empire State Building, the Space Needle, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Colosseum in Rome, the Pyramids of Egypt, the Sydney Opera House and the Eiffel Tower. It is about changing climate change and taking relevant action to mitigate climate change.

There is no data available from BC Hydro for 2016 because the World Wildlife Federation, which now sponsors the event, moved Earth Hour to earlier in March.

Earth Hour is marked around the world with millions expected to turn off lights for 60 minutes to raise awareness for climate change.

Level 2, an all day dining restaurant offers world cuisine and interactive kitchens; Indyaki, an Indian specialty theme restaurant imparts a truly global appeal.

Between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm yesterday, several landmarks across the globe turned off their lights showing support for the cause.

"Earth Hour, a campaign launched 10 years ago, is a platform that allows people to stand together on climate change and adopt practices that can help us make positive changes and work towards a sustainable future", said Ravi Singh, secretary general and CEO of WWF-India.

In a press release issued by the airport, DIA's senior director for sustainability said "Earth Hour is one small way we can highlight our commitment to implementing solutions that save money, improve operational efficiency and reduce emissions".

People can sign up online at www.earthhour.org and are encouraged to ask others to shut down for the hour.

Starting in Samoa and ending 24 hours later in The Cook Islands, people in 184 countries will send a message calling for action to protect the planet by tackling climate change, WWF said.

They can also use a new Facebook profile picture frame available on www.facebook.com/earthhour to celebrate Earth Hour on their own personal landmark - their Facebook page.

We all know that we need to take immediate action to save our planet but many of us assume that these changes will place an added burden on our pockets and with rising prices on our daily living expenses‚ people don't feel they can contribute. First Earth Hour cocktails or mocktails will be free of cost.
