Army: Israeli Killed in West Bank Car Ramming Attack

The incident comes after a wave of Palestinian attacks on civilians and security forces erupted in 2015.

The Israeli military said a vehicle driven by a Palestinian deliberately rammed two Israeli soldiers, killing one and injuring the other, in the occupied West Bank on Thursday.

Malek Ahmad Moussa Hamed killed one Israeli settler, aged 20 and injured another, aged 19.

"Moscow is deeply concerned about the situation in the Israeli-Palestinian settlement". The alleged attacker was arrested, an Israeli army statement said, without giving details about him.

A picture taken on February 21, 2017, from the Palestinian village al-Dayrat in the southern West Bank, shows in the background the Israeli settlement of Karmel. The reasoning of the occupying soldiers was that the large pieces could fall on and thus injure or damage settlers walking on the streets or settler cars - not Palestinians on the same part of the street though.

Israeli media said the Israelis were standing near a bus stop at the time of the attack.

The violence has greatly subsided in recent months.

Israeli forces also shot and killed a middle-aged Palestinian woman last week in the Old City of Jerusalem after she allegedly tried to stab a police officer with a pair of scissors.

Most of the Palestinians killed were carrying out knife, gun or car-ramming attacks, according to Israeli authorities.

The statement deals with Russian concerns over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and expresses concern that "Palestine and Israel have not held political negotiations for almost three years, and the situation on the ground has been deteriorating".

The statement said: "Moscow is deeply concerned about the state of affairs in the Palestinian-Israeli settlement". Others have been killed in clashes with Israeli troops.

It is his way of saying that any normalisation between the Arabs and Israel should take place through the Palestinian channel, and particularity though his leadership in Ramallah.
