USA stocks close flat amidst geopolitical tensions

US stocks eked out gains on Monday, 10 April 2017 as strength in energy shares helped to offset selling pressure sparked by geopolitical concerns, but market sentiment remained cautious going into the first-quarter earnings season. The S&P 500 technology sector was down 0.38%. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 3.11 points to close at 5,880.93.

Until recently, these concerns have been overshadowed by a sharp rally in equities since President Trump won the election on a pro-Wall Street platform, which sent risk-assets ratcheting higher.
