New law allows states to block Planned Parenthood funds

Instead, it gives states the ability to refuse to reimburse the organization from the Title X family grant program and/or Medicaid.

Title X funds go toward services like cervical and breast cancer screenings, birth control, STI treatment and well-woman exams - not abortion, thanks to the Hyde Amendment, which bans any federal dollars from funding abortion services.

As The Post notes, abortions are barred under federal law, which is why Title X funding does not pay for abortions. The failed House bill, which Trump supported, would have blocked federal money for Planned Parenthood for a year, in addition to repealing parts of the 2010 Paient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Trump signed into law a bill that empowers states to halt hundreds of millions in Title X federal funding from Planned Parenthood and other organizations that perform abortions.

Trump signed the legislation one month after he said that he would continue to direct taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood if it stopped performing abortions.

The order overturns a regulation put into effect by President Barack Obama that said states couldn't stop money meant for family planning services, the Associated Press reported.

The law once again raises questions about the power Ivanka Trump, the President's daughter and aide, actually wields inside the West Wing.

Because it is the nation's leader in aborting babies, Planned Parenthood has no choice but to spin signing the bill into an attack on women.

On Thursday President Donald Trump signed legislation allowing states to deny funding to Planned Parenthood and other family planning clinics that also provide abortion care. Vice President Mike Pence broke the tie, sending the bill to Trump's desk.

Now states have the freedom to spend their Title X money on comprehensive health clinics that better serve all women's needs, like pre-natal care, which a recent investigation revealed is almost impossible to receive at Planned Parenthood clinics.

"Whether our elected leaders take action publicly or privately to restrict women's health care and attack their reproductive rights, it is unacceptable and unsafe", said Karen Middleton, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado.

"We would never abandon the women who count on us in exchange for cash", Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, told The New York Times at the time. "Taxpayers should not be forced to fund abortion, plain and simple", House Speaker Paul Ryan said in a statement Thursday.
