Bruins Rally from Three Goals Down, But Lose in Overtime

Bruins Rally from Three Goals Down, But Lose in Overtime

The game was a play in three acts: a awful first period that saw the Bruins fall behind 2-0 in front of their own fans, and then 3-0 early in the second, but act two was that emotional second period that saw Boston roar back on consecutive goals by Noel Acciari, David Backes, and David Pastrnak that had the Garden rocking in full throated intensity, and then the tragic finale in sudden death overtime when Bobby Ryan put home the game victor for Ottawa, deflecting a pass over Tuukka Rask while the Senators were on the power play. Ottawa added another goal early in the second before Boston produced a dramatic comeback.

It's obviously easier said than done when it comes to a dominant player who finished with 17 goals and 71 points for the Sens this season. The Senators jumped out to a 3-0 lead less than five minutes into the second period.

An exciting second period on Marathon Monday was the difference-maker in this game as the Bruins came back after being down three goals to bring the game into overtime.

The thinking was that with hard-hitting Noel Acciari entering the series in Game 3 and the B's holding last change at home in Boston, things would get a lot more challenging for Karlsson.

After Tuukka Rask made a dazzling, slide-across-the-crease-save, the rest of the period was drastically different.

Game 4 Wednesday night would be a great time for this start.

If Karlsson keeps playing and producing like he has in the first three games of this season playoff series, it will be the biggest moment in his Stanley Cup playoff body of work to date. Both Miller and interim head coach Bruce Cassidy said that the final decision will be made at game time, but Cassidy said that Miller "looks like he's ready to go".

Hoffman and Brassard scored just 25 seconds apart in the first period and exploited a depleted Boston defense to give Ottawa an early 2-0 lead.

Ottawa went on the penalty kill and David Pastrnak took advantage of the man advantage as he tied the game with help from Charlie McAvoy for Boston, raising his hand to his ear to bring the Garden crowd to their feet in a sea of cheers. In less than 8 minutes, the Ottawa lead was gone and it was a brand new game once again.

The assist was the second of the game for Karlsson.

The Leafs pulled back within one when Kadri fired through traffic from the point to beat Holtby with 4:47 left in the middle period.

Backes had the best opportunity to score for the Bruins in first period, but his attempt to fire a glove side shot by Anderson was wide right, striking the post.

All three games so far have been decided in overtime. Acciari and Tommy Cross both played in their first National Hockey League playoff games, bringing the total to 11 Bruins that have made their postseason debuts in the series.
