Draisaitl helps Oilers rout Ducks 7-1 to force Game 7

Draisaitl helps Oilers rout Ducks 7-1 to force Game 7

Draisaitl scored twice early in the game en route to a hat trick, and Oilers scored five times in the first period of a 7-1 rout of the Ducks in Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinals on Sunday. And the Edmonton Oilers proved that in Game 6, time after time until it became seven times as the delirious crowd Rogers Place partied around them.

The Ducks were eliminated in the first rounds of 2016 (Nashville) and 2013 (Detroit), the second round of 2014 (Los Angeles) and the third round of 2015 (Chicago) in seventh games at the Honda Center.

Draisaitl continued to produce against Anaheim.

McDavid picked up an assist on Caggiula's goal, finally notching his first multi-point performance of the playoffs after posting 30 during the regular season to claim the Art Ross Trophy as top scorer in the league. He was held without a point Sunday after three goals and six assists in his previous two games.

"For us to come out in the second period and get that sixth goal, that was big", Letestu said. "We're not afraid to go into our building and play a Game 7". The rest of the team wasn't much better, as they allowed this game to be played at a pace only one of these two clubs will succeed at. Not by us, but by other people.

NOTES: Ducks forward Jakob Silfverberg had two assists, extending his playoffs streak of games with a point to five. Maybe the Ducks' extensive playoff experience will prevail and Carlyle's skills at adjusting on the fly - skills Murray believed could get them past their playoff hurdle - will make the difference.

"Last game, it goes in blocker side and they bump his blocker. I just kind of let them down".

There were only two emotions left for the Oilers.

With their margin for error now a thing of the past, it will be up to Connor McDavid to lead the charge and ensure this group finds its way back to the Western Conference Final for the first time in a decade. He came in on a break and was hooked from behind by Ducks defenseman Hampus Lindholm.

Draisaitl struck again at 7:22, taking a pass from Milan Lucic, spinning, then sliding a backhand through Gibson. Kris Russell came back to the bench looking like he might be headed there as well.

On a cross-ice feed from Perry, Rakell caught Talbot out of his net to score for the Ducks at 8:56.

Draisaitl's third goal, a power-play marker at 4:33, spurred a shower of caps, toques and other hats from the stands.

2017: Three-two series lead against the Oilers...

Edmonton's blue line ran with reinforcements as Eric Gryba and Griffin Reinhart replaced Andrej Sekura and Oscar Klefbom. Whether or not they'll get the series done on the road in Game 6 is up for grabs.

"We thought this morning that we would have to inject two new bodies into the lineup", Oilers coach Todd McLellan said. Sometimes he doesn't get enough credit because he plays with (Connor McDavid).

The Ducks outshot the Oilers 13-7 in the first period but it ended scoreless thanks to Talbot. "In San Jose we did it at times with Joe Pavelski and Joe Thornton or Patrick Marleau and Logan Couture", he said. He scored Anaheim's only goal, had 12 shot attempts (6 SOG), and had team-best possession stats (33 for, 11 against, 75.0 CF%), yet he was also the only Ducks player on the ice for three goals against. RW Ondrej Kase missed his second consecutive game. The Ducks scratched D Clayton Stoner, D Simon Despres, RW Logan Shaw and RW Jared Boll.

At 6:28 of overtime, Kyle Turris scored the game-winning goal, completing the comeback for the Senators in a 5-4 win, giving Ottawa a 3-2 series lead with Game 6 set for Tuesday.
