Five Times Democrats Said They WANTED Comey Gone

Five Times Democrats Said They WANTED Comey Gone

President Donald Trump is attacking Sen. Shortly before the election, Comey released another letter saying his probe's conclusion remained unchanged: no charges for Clinton or her aides. On CNN, Blumenthal said that the firing had prompted a "looming constitutional crisis". "On Wednesday, Trump labelled the Senate minority leader "'Cryin' Chuck Schumer"'.

Trump then turned on Blumenthal, saying he should be the one to be investigated over "one of the greatest military frauds in United States history" due to past controversial statements he made about his own military service during the Vietnam War. Blumenthal was in the Marine Corps Reserves at the time but did not fight in Vietnam.

In his letter to Mr Comey, he asserted that the FBI director had informed him "on three separate occasions that I am not under investigation".

During his morning tweet storm, Trump said that "Comey lost the confidence of nearly everyone in Washington, Republican and Democrat alike".

"I think the president made the right decision", Giuliani told New York Magazine and Atlantic reporters at the hotel.

However, not everyone agrees Comey should have been fired. Several Republicans joined them in raising alarms of how it could affect probes into possible coordination between Trump associates and Russian Federation to influence the election.

Democrats have pounced on the president amid a massive backlash over his sudden decision to fire Comey on Tuesday, just as the spy agency was investigating whether Trump's campaign aides colluded with Russian Federation in an attempt to sway the U.S. election in the Republican's favour.

Some top administration officials had no idea Trump was considering firing Comey and only found out about it just before it happened.

The President said Democrats said "the worst things" about Mr Comey, and slammed their opposing stance on his dismissal.

Mr Trump has ridiculed the investigations as a "hoax" and has denied his campaign was involved in Russia's meddling. "It is now up to the president to appoint, and the Senate to confirm, a successor who has unimpeachable credentials and integrity and who enjoys the confidence of the American people".

Senate Republicans, including some from leadership, have said a special counsel should not be appointed because it would imperil ongoing congressional probes but a special counsel would not have the authority to demand Congress halt a probe.

Trump had telephoned Schumer earlier to inform him of the decision. Administration officials have said the firing was not related to the investigation into possible contacts between the Trump presidential campaign and Russian Federation.

Many were surprised by Mr Trump's decision to keep Mr Comey and some saw it as a reward for his role in damaging the presidential campaign of Democratic rival Hillary Clinton by reopening an investigation into her email practices as secretary of state.
