Miley Cyrus releases music video for new song 'Malibu'

Miley Cyrus releases music video for new song 'Malibu'

Miley Cyrus' new single Malibu was released today and not only that, but the music video too.

It seized the throne from Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee's "Despacito (featuring Justin Bieber)", which had ruled the chart since this past weekend.

The summery cut, which is far from Cyrus' Bangerz days, is the first preview of her upcoming new album, which is expected later this year.

It has been quite some time since we have heard a hit from Miley Cyrus, but the wait is over.

Miley sings about a happy relationship in the love song, as well as their ideal setting in sunny Malibu, California.

Cyrus reminisces in the song about her introduction to Malibu, one of the most celebrated beaches in the Los Angeles area, after overcoming fears of swimming.

The video for "Malibu" sees Cyrus frolicking through meadows of wildflowers, under waterfalls, and along sandy beaches while wearing knit sweaters and bikinis, giving the entire video the feel of an extended Abercrombie ad.

"I never would've believed you if three years ago you told me I'd be here writing this song", she shared.

Cyrus wrote the single while in transit on the way to her coaching gig on "The Voice" and had to stop herself from singing out loud. "They're going to talk about me if I come out of a restaurant with Liam". Plus, the 24-year-old's reunion with fiance Liam Hemsworth creates a very different creative space for Cyrus-her new tone is more backyard game of catch than "Wrecking Ball".

Cyrus will make her debut performance of "Malibu" at the Billboard Music Awards on May 21.
