Record APR Scores For Cal Football, Men's Basketball

Four teams recorded a ideal score as men's cross-country, men's golf, women's tennis and volleyball received 1,000. "Our success in this area is built on the strong collaborative effort between our student-athletes, coaches and support staff, an effort that is a source of great pride".

"The latest April report is just another indication that Razorback student-athletes continue to raise the bar academically on their way to graduation", Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said.

Five USC sports teams posted flawless 1,000 April scores, including men's volleyball, women's beach volleyball, women's cross country, women's golf and women's tennis.

The APR four-year averages are based on two factors: the retention rate of scholarship student-athletes and the academic eligibility of scholarship student-athletes over the four-year period.

Ohio State football's best multi-year rate was 988, achieved in 2010-11.

Team scores are calculated by giving each athlete one point per semester for remaining academically eligible and another point per semester for remaining enrolled or graduating, with a four-point maximum per individual per academic year.

USC football's multiyear score was 968, surpassing an April of 965 it posted in 2008-09. The men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field teams are combined in the April data, reducing the number of Penn State teams from 31 to 29 in the compilation.

The APR is derived from data submitted by MSU for the 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years.

According to the APR, Marshall had four athletic programs finish in the top five within their sport in Conference USA: football, women's basketball, women's cross country and women's soccer. "Our academic counseling staff does an excellent job of providing our student-athletes with the tools they need to succeed in college, and the faculty and staff, who teach and provide a wealth of other services to our student-athletes, are extremely valuable in helping our young people reach their academic goals". As a result, the Bears' four-year April averaged moved up to 970, which is 31 points higher than it was just three years ago. Each team posted a flawless April score of 1,000. Baseball teams earned a 973 four-year rate (up from 970), and football teams earned a 962 (up from 959). Teams that don't have non-championship events out of season will be required to play fewer games.

The Penn State women's tennis and women's volleyball squads earned ideal multi-year (2012-13 through 2015-16) April scores of 1,000.

Pitt's scores were at or above last year's marks for 11 of 17 programs, with softball showing the largest jump of +12 for a ideal score of 1000.

Four Mountaineers teams - men's basketball, women's basketball, women's soccer and rifle - recorded ideal 1,000 scores.

The men's basketball (+10 points), women's basketball (+5) and football (+9) teams were among the 15 Penn State squads that improved their multi-year April scores from the 2016 report. Their one non-perfect score was mitigated when past players returned to earn their degrees, bumping the four-year rolling average to 1,000, which is rare. The average is based on the 17 April scores released for the University of Arkansas.
