Pakistani police: 15 killed in bombing that wounded lawmaker

A "huge" explosion in Pakistan's restive southwestern Balochistan province that apparently targeted a top official's convoy killed at least ten people and wounded "many" others, police told AFP Friday. The blast occurred in the town of Mastung, 50 kilometres (30 miles) from the provincial capital, Quetta.

Earlier: A bomb attack in south-western Pakistan has killed 15 people and wounded up to 35 others, including the deputy leader of the country's senate, police said.

Senior police officer Abdul Razzaq Cheema said that 30-40 people were injured. Citing sources, Geo TV said Haideri has been shifted to the Civil hospital. Haideri had received minor injuries in the blast but was otherwise fine, The Dawn news reported.

Haideri's political party, the pro-Taliban Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam, has hundreds of Islamic Sunni seminaries throughout Baluchistan.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

President Mamnoon Hussain Friday condemned the attack on the motorcade of Deputy Chairman Senate Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidery in Mastung.
