Severe Weather Outbreak to Eye Central US

Severe Weather Outbreak to Eye Central US

This large area of thunderstorms will advance eastward across western Minnesota this morning and likely reach the metro area by early this afternoon. It may also be humid enough to where heat index values may approach the mid 90s.

Forecast surface weather map for today. A possible severe thunderstorm watch will need to be issued if they hold together. The risk of severe weather for Tuesday evening is shown below.

Risk of severe weather today and tonight.

Tomorrow there is a small chance of a pop up shower in the morning again mainly toward north-central Kansas but better chances exist later in the afternoon. Storms Tuesday night will continue with a hail and wind potential, but a tornado can not be ruled out. The most favorable locations for storms will depend considerably on earlier storm activity; that is, where previous storms laid down cold pools to inhibit future storm growth or boundaries along which storms can grow. Showers and storms will become more numerous during this week as well, including chances for severe weather through Wednesday evening.

More news: United States retail sales rose 0.4% in April

A more extensive severe weather event looms beyond the start of the week. Cooler weather is expected due to the showers/storms. The Twin Cities can expect a high of about 80.

Saturday was another very pleasant day in Siouxland with highs generally in the low 80s.

The initial batch of scattered showers and storms will move across the area this evening.
