Trump to address graduates of US Coast Guard Academy

Trump to address graduates of US Coast Guard Academy

The remarks were Trump's first since it was reported that he had asked then-FBI chief James Comey to drop the investigation into disgraced former national security adviser Mike Flynn's ties to Russian Federation.

"Look at the way I've been treated lately, especially by the media". He seemed defiant though, telling the grads.

"Never, never, never give up. Things will work out just fine", Trump continued, in what sounded like a pep talk to himself as much as to the graduates.

The comments to Coast Guard graduates echo ones Trump made at his first commencement address as president this past weekend at Liberty University.

"This is an opportunity to say we're here, we need your help, we support you, we support these Coast Guard cadets", Lapp said.

The president closed out his speech with one actual piece of advice for the graduates: "Enjoy your life". "Don't give in. Don't back down and never stop doing what you know is right. Nothing worth doing ever, ever, ever came easy", Trump said, apparently reading a list of aphorisms found after Googling "motivational words to say in speech".

"The more righteous your fight, the more opposition you'll face", Trump said. "And I am proud to say that under my administration. we will be building the first new heavy icebreakers the United States has seen in over 40 years".

He added that he was not elected to serve the Washington media, but the "forgotten men and women of our country" that ushered Trump to power in November.

President Trump complained Wednesday that the press has treated him more unfairly than any other politician in history.

Mr Trump's brief jaunt outside Washington was perhaps a welcome respite.

Democratic lawmakers said on Wednesday they would try to force a vote in the US House of Representatives on forming an independent commission to investigate possible Russian influence on the 2016 election, saying Republicans could not be trusted to thoroughly investigate Mr Trump.

"The fact is, no one has achieved anything significant without a chorus of critics standing on the sidelines explaining why it can't be done", Trump said.

The fresh U.S. crisis sank the dollar as well as Hong Kong stocks amid worries that Trump's economy-boosting and tax-cutting agenda could be derailed, as both analysts and handful of lawmakers on Capitol Hill began openly to raise the prospect of a possible impeachment.
