Google Daydream "Euphrates" Update Brings Interesting Improvements to the VR Experience

Google Daydream

The first standalone virtual reality headsets to run using Google's Daydream VR platform are due to launch later this year, the tech giant has announced. In connection with the recent introduction of Google Daydream View VR Headset, Google is planning to even take its VR platform development a notch higher by coming up with stand-alone headsets. "WorldSense enables positional tracking, meaning the headset tracks your precise movements in space - and it does this all without any external sensors to install".

Other details like pricing and the exact dates of release are yet to be known. Although the efforts of this new virtual reality ecosystem were seen a year ago with the Daydream View, what's coming next is much more compelling. So today Google has revealed Daydream 2.0 Euphrates, the next version of its operating that's been created to work with mobile and the upcoming standalone head-mounted displays (HMDs).

It added that Samsung's Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones will be Daydream-ready following a software update this summer. This option has been available on a high-end headset like HTC Vive, but it requires a cord to connect to a TV. The trailer puts the viewer in the position of a VR headset user and shows how easily it can be used.

Nothing can snap you out of an immersive virtual reality (VR) experience faster than tripping over a cord, which is why VR companies have been scrambling to develop wireless systems. Instant Preview is a new feature where creators can make changes in an environment and then experience them in a headset seconds later without having to wait for lengthy rendering sessions.

While LG won't be retrofitting the G6 with Daydream support, they look to have committed to including it in their upcoming V30 (due in late 2017). It's meant to be an indoor alternative to Global Positioning System and is now being trialled in select Lowe's stores and museums.

The announcement was made at Google's annual developer conference I/O.
