U.K. Minor Parties Slam 'Extreme' Brexit in Debate May Avoided

U.K. Minor Parties Slam 'Extreme' Brexit in Debate May Avoided

Ms Sturgeon jokingly described the Ukip chief as a "spokesperson" for the Prime Minister as she attempted to paint the Tories as careering towards an economically unsafe form of leaving the EU.

The two-hour debate, staged by ITV at its studios in Salford, began with a clash on Brexit, then covered the NHS, social care, living standards, education and university tuition fees.

However the debate on ITV didn't feature Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn - who both refused to attend.

He said: 'Brexit would never have happened if it wasn't for Ukip.

Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn came under fire in equal measure during tonight's leadership debate, as their political rivals slammed the Labour and Tory leaders for refusing to take part.

The most notable thing about this debate is that Conservative leader Theresa May has said that she does not plan to do it, so chance are we might have at least one empty seat.

But the blunder-prone leader made another gaffe when he wrongly referred to Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood as Natalie.

"You may be too scared to come here tonight, for your U-turns to be highlighted, for your cruel policies to be exposed", the Welsh politician said.

They huffed and puffed though about her absence, as Leanne Wood looked down the camera - imagining that she was addressing Mrs May directly - to chide her for failing to show "real leadership" by joining her on stage.

After Mr Farron repeated his call for a second referendum on Brexit, Mr Nuttall tore into him saying: "Tim can cry about it all he wants".

"That's weak leadership - weak and unstable".

Sturgeon said Scottish opposition to a Westminster Tory government, committed to an "extreme" Brexit, could only be provided by her party.

The leaders of the remaining five parties - Tim Farron, Caroline Lucas, Nicola Sturgeon, Leanne Wood and Paul Nuttall - locked horns on issues ranging from Brexit and immigration, to healthcare, education and the economy.

"The public deserve to see a debate between the only two people who could form the next government".

In Paul Nuttall's head, we're all Natalie.

. "I trust the people".
