Former FBI Director James Comey to testify before Congress June 8

In addition to Russia's efforts to influence the presidential election, much of the questioning is likely to center around Comey's termination, which shocked senators in both parties.

Comey wrote in private notes that Trump asked him to shut down the FBI's probe into former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and he also kept notes on a conversation in which he alleged Trump asked him for an affirmation of loyalty, people familiar with the documents have said.

President Donald Trump abruptly fired Comey from his post early last month making the former FBI Director only the second top official to be ousted from office since the bureau's founding in 1908.

The Comey associate, who wasn't authorized to discuss details of the testimony and spoke on condition of anonymity, declined to discuss the content of Comey's planned testimony.

The special counsel overseeing the government's investigation into Trump campaign ties to Russian Federation authorized Comey to testify before the committee, a Comey associated told AP on Wednesday. However else we might be divided we can all agree that Trump shouldn't have fired Comey on May 9.

Lee said he hasn't personally seen Comey's memos related to Trump's reported requests to the former FBI director to end the investigation into Flynn.

Presuming he testifies, Comey has a separate challenge: avoiding stepping on Mueller's investigation.

A spokeswoman for the committee's chairman, Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC), the Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. He said he has "nothing to hide".

Russia has repeatedly denied any effort to interfere in the US election, and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday said some Russians might have acted on their own without their government's involvement. He said the unmasking subpoenas are not part of the Russian Federation probe.
