President Trump will announce his decision on the Paris Accord Thursday

"AGAIN!" the USA leader said in a tweet late Wednesday, punctuating the post with his campaign slogan.

WASHINGTON-President Donald Trump said on Twitter Wednesday that he will announce whether the US will remain a signatory in the Paris Climate Accord in coming days.

It comes as Finland's Prime Minister Juha Sipila told parliament on Wednesday such a move would be a "big setback".

Building suspense about America's role in the world, President Donald Trump planned to announce Thursday whether the USA would stay in a global climate pact.

US President Donald Trump, in pursuit of his America First foreign policy, appears set to distance the US from Australia and other key allies with significant decisions on climate change and Asia-Pacific trade. His decision ended weeks of speculation, some of it fueled by Trump himself and his Cabinet members.

Trump has repeatedly said he will "renegotiate" the deal, but it has already been ratified by most countries. "They're going to withdraw USA participation in the treaty".

In a letter sent hours before Trump was due to announce on Thursday whether the US would pull out of the accord, the five leaders say the effects of global warming are already visible in all parts of our planet.

According to those briefed, Trump will argue that the Paris pact is a bad deal for American workers and was poorly negotiated by the Obama administration.

News of Trump's expected decision drew swift reaction from the United Nations.

By abandoning the world's chief effort to slow the tide of planetary warming, Trump was fulfilling a top campaign pledge.

The White House had previously indicated that Trump could simply recalibrate emissions targets.

White House aides were divided on the topic and had been deliberating on "caveats in the language" as late as Wednesday, one official said.

But despite several leaks and indications that Trump will withdraw, per his campaign promise to do so, it's possible that he could stay in. If the president decides to scrap US participation, the Tesla CEO said he would stop participating in White House councils.

The Paris Agreement was in part brokered by Obama and was seen as a major breakthrough after the previous accord, the Kyoto protocol, failed to include the U.S. and China, the world's two biggest polluters. After that "cooling-off period", it takes a year for a notification of withdrawal to be finalized.

Former President Barack Obama and a host of other countries signed the climate change agreement in 2015, which aims to reduce global carbon emissions. He said pulling out of the Paris agreement will turn the Unites States "from a climate leader into a climate laggard". Electric vehicle giant Elon Musk and Exxon also pressed the president to stay with the 2015 pact. They include Apple, Google and Walmart. "It's unconscionable for the President of the United States to step away from it".

Chinese premier Li Keqiang said in Berlin that fighting global warming is a "global consensus" and an "international responsibility".

President Donald Trump signs an executive order on USA energy policy and climate regulations, on March 28 at the Environmental Protecton Agency in Washington, D.C. Looking on and smiling are EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt, at left wearing blue tie, and coal industry workers.

But Trump said the agreement disadvantaged the U.S.

But this option may not be the likely route, since two senior officials say Trump is expected to withdraw from the climate deal.

But European officials insisted that the deal would remain on track.
