Spieth right back in the mix at Memorial

Spieth right back in the mix at Memorial

DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) - Jason Dufner wants to put together more than just a few good rounds at the Memorial this week. He had played great golf his first two rounds, shooting 66-69 to get to nine-under for the week.

Daniel Summerhays seized a three-shot lead at the US PGA'S Memorial tournament Saturday as overnight leader Jason Dufner ballooned to five-over par 77 in the third round.

World No.12 Rickie Fowler (66) is a shot adrift at eight under, while two-time major victor Jordan Spieth (72) sits two back in a tie for fourth.

Five birdies, no bogeys, and that eagle threw down the gauntlet to the afternoon wave of players, but at the time he finished, Dufner led the field by eight shots. The two-time Masters champion fired a four-under 68, highlighted by a six-under 30 on his back nine. "I figured it could be a good day when your off shots you're making birdie on". He was joined by Jamie Lovemark (69) and Justin Thomas (71).

Jordan Spieth was right in the mix until catching a downhill like in the bunker left of the par-three eighth.

Scott was the best of the Australians on day two but it is Victoria's Marc Leishman who is best placed overall after adding his second consecutive 70 to be 4-under and remain T13.

"Everything", the 2013 PGA Championship victor said, when asked what he had done well.

Lingmerth had no such problems: "I caught some breaks when I missed the fairway and still had some fairly good opportunities from the rough", he told Golf Channel.

It was a day to forget for Dustin Johnson at the Memorial as the World No 1 shot a 74 on Friday to miss the cut. Spieth started the back nine with two straight birdies, but followed with two straight bogeys.

"It not only helps me with my stroke but also helps with my set-up", he said.

A bad day of breathing is short and quick. "It's tough to change".

Fowler started the tournament with a triple bogey on his second hole and he was 3 over through four holes when he turned it around Thursday for a 70.

Ariya Jutanugarn took the No. 1 spot in the world ranking without hitting a shot, and Paula Creamer and In-Kyung Kim topped the ShopRite LPGA Classic leaderboard Saturday.

The leading pair were one stroke in front of Spieth and fellow American Daniel Summerhays on 66.

Stacy Lewis (Arkansas Razorbacks) shot a 4-under 67 and is tied for ninth. "Really got going there (with birdies) at five, six, seven, got one on eight as well".

Andrew Landry (Razorbacks) had a 68 and is 6 under.

He ended with a three-shot lead.

Dunne's 78, 71, for three-over meant a missed cut by two shots.

It was the first time in almost four years - since the Bridgestone Invitational in 2013 - that Johnson failed to make a birdie.
