Kellyanne Conway's husband: Trump tweets won't help travel ban pass

Kellyanne Conway's husband: Trump tweets won't help travel ban pass

Conway, who had been considered a frontrunner to lead the Justice Department's Civil Division, took himself out of consideration for the job on Friday.

"These tweets may make some ppl feel better, but they certainly won't help OSG [Office of the Solicitor General] get 5 votes in SCOTUS, which is what actually matters".

In a series of tweets, George Conway explained he is still strongly in support of Trump.

He followed that tweet up with more posts to state that revisions to the travel ban are "watered down" and "politically correct".

Several courts have used Trump's statements throughout last year's general election and after his inauguration, both online and off, to determine the intent behind his first executive order that temporarily banned travel from seven Muslim-majority nations, and what the president calls a "watered down" version of that order with restrictions on just six Muslim-majority nations.

White House adviser Kellyanne Conway echoed Gorka's position in an interview Monday morning on the "Today Show".

Donald Trump and Sean Spicer agree with ACLU on ban

Mr. Trump began the day with a series of tweets criticizing judicial resistance to his proposed travel ban, which would prevent people from entering the US from a number of Muslim-majority countries. "The pt can not be stressed enough that tweets on legal matters seriously undermine Admin agenda and POTUS-and those who support him, as I do, need to reinforce that pt and not be shy about it".

It is, to say the least, highly unusual for a president to comment in such a belligerent way about a matter that is now before federal courts - the Trump administration asked the Supreme Court to reinstate the most recent version of his Muslim ban last week.

When Conway, who is a partner at the firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, withdrew his name from consideration on Friday, he cited family reasons, saying that while he and Kellyanne continued to support the president, he had "reluctantly concluded" that it was not the right time for him to "leave the private sector and take on a new role in the federal government".

Kellyanne Conway, speaking to NBC News, scolded the media for their "obsession" with Trump's Twitter account.

"This obsession with covering everything he says on Twitter and very little of what he does as President", Conway said. So far, the second version of the travel ban has been argued in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and the 4th Circuit.
