Sheridan Kmart on list to close

Sheridan Kmart on list to close

Sears at Midway Mall in Elyria is set to close this year, the company announced Tuesday.

As a well-known department store struggles to survive, it seems that it will likely close even more stores this year.

You can find the entire list HERE.

According to the Kmart website, the store closure on Stockton Boulevard will leave only a handful of Kmarts operating in the extended Sacramento area, with single stores in Auburn, Placerville, Jackson, Grass Valley and Stockton.

Howard Riefs director of corporate communications for Sears Holdings on Wednesday confirmed the closing of the Midwest City location. He said that his wife, who also works at the store, was there for the announcement.

With the Rodney Parham Road store closure, two other Kmart locations now remain in Arkansas: one in Russellville and another in Cabot.

An online business news site is reporting that Kmart in Johnson City is closing. Sears Holdings bought Kmart in 2005. According to the Business Insider, nationwide, the total number of locations now sits at 1200, down from over 2,000 just five years ago. Long before the ascendance of Walmart, and decades before Amazon was even born, the Sears catalog was how many Americans learned to shop from home for a large variety of items they wanted.

Sears Holdings, the owner of Sears and Kmart, said numerous closing stores have struggled with their financial performance for years.

Kraig Johnson, owner of the store at 507 Iowa Ave., said Sears Hometown is a separate entity from Sears Holdings, which primarily features full-line mall retail outlets and some auto centers. "Our members and customers can also shop at our other Kmart locations, which are listed at http://www.kmart.com/stores.html", he said.
