Grand jury indicts woman in leaked secrets case

Grand jury indicts woman in leaked secrets case

It will be hard for 25-year-old Reality Winner to get a fair trial if her case becomes "this big thing where we're not going to tolerate leakers", Winner's mother, Billie Winner-Davis, told The Associated Press in an interview Wednesday. She follows 50 twitter accounts, among them Edward Snowden and Wikileaks.

She is expecting to be released on bond Thursday.

She entered a plea of not guilty to the charge of willful retention and transmission of national defense information. The federal crime carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison if she's convicted. They say they don't know what happened to it or what it might contain. The prosecutor said victor also had photos of the leaked document on her phone.

Winner's attorney, Titus Nichols, did not immediately return a call seeking comment Thursday. Victor was the only employee found to have corresponded to a media company on her office computer.

Winners works as a private contractor for Pluribus International Corp. She printed the top secret document, dated May 5, on May 9.

The FBI. claims that victor confessed when she was confronted with the charges, and the Department of Justice announced that this is the first criminal leak case in President Trump's term.

The Intercept's reporting on Monday alleged that Russian military intelligence launched a 2016 cyberattack on a voting software company.

Nichols told CBS News that he hopes to have victor released on Bond.

"She was afraid she was going to disappear, that they were going to make her disappear. It's a rule that you don't ask", Winner's mother said.

Victor served in the Air Force from December 2010 to 2016. She was denied bail. I know that she served her country. "She's a patriot, and to see her maligned and slandered in the media is very disheartening".

The Intercept provided the United States government agency with a copy of the document, according to the complaint.

"My client has no (criminal) history, so it's not as if she has a pattern of having done anything like this before", Nichols said in a phone interview Monday.

Victor is set to go before US Magistrate Judge Brian Epps for a detention hearing Thursday in Augusta, Nichols said. "She's, she's our victor".

Court documents do not explicitly name the site; however, two national security officials have told NPR that the cases are connected.

Solari said victor also confessed to her mother during a recorded jailhouse phone call, saying: "Mom, those documents". "She's going to be made an example of".

"I don't care what they accused her of doing". Victor charged with leaking USA governmen.

The judge said, however, he believed the government had made its case that victor should be held without bond.

Prosecutors said she also instructed family members to transfer $30,000 into her mother's account so she'd appear poor enough for a court-appointed attorney.

Davis said she received a commendation for aiding in the deaths of more than 100 enemy combatants and more than 250 enemy captures. Prosecutors said victor told her sister she would braid her hair and cry in court. Numerous accounts claim to be run by agency employees unhappy with Trump.

"She hasn't admitted it at all to me".
