Georgia manhunt: Escaped inmates accused of killing guards arrested in Tennessee

[READ: Departments send condolences after correctional officers killed] Officials said Rowe and Dubose overpowered Monica and Billue, and shot them both to death.

"I think they don't have much to fear because they've already killed two people, so they don't have any problem killing somebody else", Bailey told WSB.

According to CNN, Sills said the truck was ditched in Moore County in Tennessee and the two apparently stole a vehicle, which they drove to a house in Bedford County. "They're not concerned with anything regarding human life".

Sills wouldn't comment on whether the other 31 inmates left locked inside the bus with the slain guards' bodies revealed how the escapees managed to get out of the secure compartment.

Signs of the fugitives turned up hours later and 25 miles north, in Madison, where they ransacked a house, ditched their prison uniforms, and took food and clothing.

Since Tuesday, law enforcement officials said they'd tracked Dubose and Rowe to a rural home, which they broke into while the owners were away.

The fugitives — 43-year-old Donnie Russell Rowe and 24-year-old Ricky Dubose — are believed to have stolen a white Ford F250 pickup truck with the Georgia tag BCX-5372 around midnight Tuesday in Madison, Georgia.

Malphrus urged the community to use caution and call 911 if they see suspicious vehicles or the men matching the description. "We need the public's help in locating these vehicles and locating these individuals".

Dubose, 24, has prominent tattoos on his body, including crowns above his eyebrows, a star below his right ear and graffiti-style letters all across his neck.

Both Rowe, 43, and Dubose were convicted of armed robbery and other violent crimes, and have been cellmates a few times in Georgia's prisons. Dubose, a former Madison County resident, was serving a 20-year sentence for armed robbery with a projected release date of September 3, 2034.

The inmates have been cellmates a few times in Georgia's prisons, had known each other for "quite a while" and may have planned the escape together, Department of Corrections Assistant Commissioner Ricky Myrick said.

Rowe and Dubose have been on the run since Tuesday, when they allegedly overpowered two correctional officers on a transport bus in Putnam County before making their escape.

Sills said there's no visible evidence - an apparent reference to video from a security camera on the bus - showing that other inmates participated. "I can't tell you how the gate got open".

The guards were named as Christopher Monica, a strapping 42-year-old, and Curtis Billue, 58, an experienced and highly-regarded prison worker.

Monica had worked for the facility for almost eight years after being hired in October of 2009.

They fled in the man's Honda Civic down state Highway 16 in Putnam County.
