Trump Appears to Confirm He Is Under Investigation

Trump Appears to Confirm He Is Under Investigation

Comey told Congress last week that before being sacked, Trump pressured him to drop an investigation into his former national security advisor, Mike Flynn, who was forced to quit for lying about his links to Moscow.

If Donald Trump fires Rod Rosenstein or prods him into recusing himself from the Russian Federation meddling investigation he oversees, the president risks creating chaos at the Justice Department while failing to stop the inquiry.

Rosenstein's statement followed two articles by The Washington Post that cited unnamed officials, one saying that Mueller's investigation had widened to include whether Trump committed obstruction of justice, the other that it was looking at financial transactions involving Jared Kushner, the president's adviser and son-in-law.

Mueller took over the DOJ Russia probe after a chain of events set in motion by Trump, Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Trump also appeared to put Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in his crosshairs.

Other presidents have managed to compartmentalize investigations and go about the business of governing, but Trump seems consumed by the Mueller probe.

The tweets are the latest in a week of angry social media responses by the President over a report by the Washington Post that Mr Mueller was looking into whether he had obstructed justice.

Attorney Steve Ryan says Friday that Michael Cohen plans on cooperating "in all governmental inquiries". He has already been subpoenaed by the House intelligence committee. He heads the McDermott, Will and Emery firm's government strategies practice. The New York Times sued the FBI on Friday, June 16, 2017, seeking a court's help in getting the agency to turn over documents created by fired FBI Director James Comey after his conversations with President Donald Trump. Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, in a statement. But Rosenstein, too, may ultimately have to hand off oversight of the probe given his own role in Comey's firing.

Trump ignored shouted questions from reporters about the ongoing Russian Federation controversy as he departed the White House Friday for Miami.

"He's driving this", the White House official said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss West Wing internal deliberations.

Vice President Mike Pence's office said on Thursday he had hired a lawyer known for defending government officials in high-profile investigations to help him with the Russian Federation probes.

Washington has been rocked by a series of leaks pertaining to the panel's work, including the revelations about a focus on potential obstruction of justice and Kushner's finances. It wasn't clear whether he was basing his tweet on direct knowledge or on media reports.

Sanders, for example, was asked if Trump still felt "vindicated" by the extraordinary congressional testimony last week by James Comey, the Federal Bureau of Investigation director whose firing by Trump has contributed to questions about whether the president obstructed justice.

The White House has used a memo he wrote to justify Trump's decision to fire FBI Director James Comey, but that Trump action may now be part of the probe.

Trump's young presidency has been battered by allegations - under investigation both by Congress and the FBI - that Russian Federation interfered to sway the 2016 election in his favor, in possible collusion with Trump's campaign team.

If Rosenstein refuses, Trump would have to fire Rosenstein and order his replacement to fire Mueller.

Additionally, he took the opportunity to highlight some perceived presidential wins, while continuing to decry the "phony Witch Hunt".

"You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people!"

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich tweeted that Mueller is the tip "of the deep state spear aimed at destroying or at a minimum undermining and crippling the Trump presidency".

US employers pulled back on hiring in May by adding only 138,000 jobs, though the gains were enough to help nudge the unemployment rate down to a 16 year-low. He also has millions of followers on his official Facebook pages.

Mueller is also investigating Trump for obstruction of justice, the Post reported Wednesday. Mueller is now leading the investigation into whether Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 presidential election. The goal would be to throw so much shade on Mueller, that if he comes out with a damaging report, the public dismisses it as fake news brewed up in a witch hunt.
