Transformers: The Last Knight Nears $200 Million Overseas

"Transformers: The Last Knight" is expected to knock "Cars 3" off the top of the US box office for the weekend ending Sunday.

The Transformers films are a series of American science fiction action films based on the toys created by Hasbro and Tomy.

When it comes to Michael Bay's inexplicably never-ending "Transformers" franchise, there is no beating around the bush-it's really bad.

To keep things on the level, "Transformers 5" opened on Wednesday and not the usual Thursday, slightly warping the film's $65M opening for the week.

She says: "It's just fantastic how much this man does, and how much he's got on his plate to turn a movie of this size out".

Not only is the film the lowest debuting film of the series but with this debut it might not even be in the top 10 grossing films of 2017 in the US.

Transformers: The Last Knight, the latest installment from the hugely successful franchise, is now showing in theaters and one person who is largely to thank for the franchise's successes is its director Michael Bay. The United Kingdom, Russia, Korea, Australia and Germany all saw a dip in revenue compared to the series' previous entry, Transformers: Age of Extinction, which went on to cash in the highest global return of any film in 2014.

Humans are at war with the Transformers, and Optimus Prime is gone. They key to saving the future lies buried in the secrets of the past and the hidden history of Transformers on Earth.

Disney and Pixar's "Cars 3" also looks to earn $25.2 million domestically during its second weekend. While not bringing in the same opening numbers as predecessors Cars ($60 million by its second week) and Cars 2 ($66 million by its second week), its week 2 has only seen a 53.1 percent decrease in domestic earnings, which is much better than Cars 2's 60.3 percent decline. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes.

Patty Jenkins' "Wonder Woman" continued its strong performance in box office, becoming the top-grossing live-action film directed by a woman. The film has now tied Iron Man's domestic total ($318 million) and is on track to take on fellow DCEU films Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice ($330.4 million) and Suicide Squad ($325 million) despite having had a smaller opening figure than either film.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros Pictures' Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot continues to do fantastic at the box office.

The film begins with a flashback to the medieval times of King Arthur, when Arthur and his Knights are battling the mighty Saxon army.

Countries like China, India and South America have driven the majority of box office revenue for the "Transformers" franchise since the first film was released in 2007. This brings the movie's domestic haul to $68.5 million. The recent reboot of the fan-favorite 1997 film of the same name sees Cruise play Nick Morton, an archeological thief who steals ancient artifacts from sites of historical value and sells them to the highest bidder.
