Paul George Traded by IN to Oklahoma City

Paul George Traded by IN to Oklahoma City

By trading for George, it appears the Thunder is not that concerned with losing the all-star when he becomes a free agent following the end of next season.

The Indiana Pacers have agreed to trade George to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for guard Victor Oladipo and second-year forward Domantas Sabonis.

The trade momentarily takes George off the market, after he told the Pacers he didn't want to return to IN after his contract was up next summer.

Just hours before the start of National Basketball Association free agency on Friday night, the Oklahoma City traded Oladipo and forward Damontas Sabonis to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for All-Star forward Paul George. The Indiana Pacers reportedly had a potential deal with the Celtics that would have landed them several draft picks for George, but the trade never materialized.

As for George, who averaged 18 FGA per game last season on his way to a career-best 23.7 PPG, the same concerns are there. Oladipo averages a couple more points and assists per night while Crowder is a better rebounder and defender.

Now, George will get to pair his skills with those of reigning NBA MVP Russell Westbrook as the Thunder look to return to the Western Conference's elite. The Celtics were offering as many as three first-round picks and two starting players for George, according to the Boston Globe.

According to ESPN, the Thunder will meet with Rudy Gay as free agency this weekend to add more options. Another Aussie, center Andrew Bogut, is on the free agency market after suffering a broken left leg in his debut with Cleveland last season. He reportedly informed the team earlier this year that he planned to leave next summer as an unrestricted free agent and sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Utah Jazz received Ricky Rubio from the Minnesota Timberwolves for the Oklahoma City Thunder's 2018 protected first-round pick, absorbing him into their remaining cap space for the 2016-2017 season before it expired at midnight. The trade for Paul George definitely shows that.
