Spurs to stand firm over United target Dier

Spurs to stand firm over United target Dier

Bolstering the defensive midfield area looks to be high on the Portuguese tactician's wishlist as he's been linked with moves for the likes of Nemanja Matic - whom be brought back to Chelsea in 2014 - and Monaco's Fabinho.

Manchester United would have to make an offer in the region of £50m to make Tottenham Hotspur think about selling Eric Dier, according to Kaveh Solhekol.

However, they are open to negotiating with United over a summer move.

The Reds had a bid £25m turned down for Dier, it is thought, and now look to nearly double that figure with a major deal for the defensive-midfielder.

The Star says that the United hierarchy, including executive vice chairman Ed Woodward, are keen on Dier but it will be hard to lure him away from White Hart Lane. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has allegedly ruled out a move for the England worldwide categorically, for any price.

The other deal that the English side wants to see completed is the transfer for England worldwide Dier.

Dier has not always been able to play in his preferred position in midfield following the arrival of Victor Wanyama at White Hart Lane and a move to Old Trafford could suit him.

Levy also faces losing right back Kyle Walker to Manchester City this summer, albeit for another huge transfer fee of £50 million or more. Victor Wanyama, the Kenya worldwide, took Dier's spot in midfield with consistently effective performances last season following his transfer from Southampton. Ausilio said: "It's not happening".

Roma sporting director Monchi is set to meet the player's agent on Sunday for further talks but the midfielder has still attracted attention from Manchester United and Chelsea.
