Alfred Angelo Store Closures Lead to Widespread Bride Panic

Alfred Angelo Store Closures Lead to Widespread Bride Panic

Brides in many cities across the USA expressed panic Thursday on social media on news that the chain was closing.

Toscano of Rochester left Alfred Angelo Bridal with a dress for her sister's wedding - but she wasn't happy.

Alfred Angelo, a bridal gown chain with more than 60 stores nationwide, as well as partnerships with more than 1,400 retailers, has suddenly closed all of its store locations without any warning, leaving brides-to-be wondering if they'll receive their wedding dress or get a refund. That woman, too shaken to speak to 8News, said one employee slammed her arm in the door.

Busboom said when she tried to call the Lincoln store Thursday, she was placed on hold, but overheard store employees advising other employees not to answer the phone.

Some customers were told to pick up their orders by Thursday.

Megan McDonough said she was in the store last week and was told they were no longer taking orders.

Workers called customers on Thursday, informing them the stores were closing at 8 p.m., and their dress needed to be picked up before then.

"There's a lot of angry people in there right now and locking the doors, I think, is also poor business practice", said Heidi Demming".

Customers have variously been told that their gowns will be shipped when they're completed, that they need to contact one of the company's attorneys, and that they have lost their deposits for gowns that weren't yet paid in full.

Chentel Busboom, of Bennington said she already has her wedding dress in hand, but her bridesmaids may be out of luck.

The sign on the Altamonte Springs location reads, "Store closed".

Two store representatives asked Slaybaugh to leave and walked he and his photographer to the door.

"I simply don't have the funds to go somewhere else", McGraw said. She said they're all new, heavily discounted and are "absolutely gorgeous".

Sue Sturgis, president of Cause for Paws, said the dresses were donated by Ellynne Bridal.

Just a block away from Alfred Angelo's shop, Cause for Paws thrift shop was trying to get the word out Friday that it has more than 100 wedding gowns for sale. "I don't know if they'll get a dress". Other stores are not speaking to the media.

Alfred Angelo Piccione and Edythe Vincent Piccione co-founded the company in 1933 and sold their dresses and merchandise at 4,000 retailers worldwide.
