Rajon Rondo, Pelicans Reportedly Agree to 1-Year Contract

According to USA Today, the former Chicago Bulls point guard agreed to a one-year deal with the Pelicans on Saturday.

The Pelicans' interest in Rondo, an unrestricted free agent, comes amid potential competition from the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers. He will be an interesting pairing with guard Jrue Holiday, who is the leader of New Orleans' backcourt.

After the Chicago Bulls waived point guard Rajon Rondo earlier this summer, the controversial star has found a new home.

He owns a championship ring with a title in Boston.

ESPN's Zach Lowe reports that the Pelicans are meeting with Rajon Rondo on Thursday. Rondo posted 7.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while his 6.7 assists per outing led the Bulls roster. He also played one season for the Sacramento Kings in 2015-16 and 46 games for the Dallas Mavericks in 2014-15 after spending his first eight-plus campaigns with the Boston Celtics. He suffered a thumb fracture in Game 2, however, and was unable to play again in the series; the Celtics swept the next four games.

Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg benched Rondo around the halfway mark of the season, but after trying a number of different combinations, he finally brought him back into the starting lineup as the team pushed for a playoff spot.

Rondo is not always quick to pass the ball, so that will be an adjustment, though he did play well with Cousins before.

Rondo has become a journeyman late in his career.
