Can't stand on stool to break dahi handi: Raj Thackeray

Can't stand on stool to break dahi handi: Raj Thackeray

She said it had not complied with the High Court's restrictions imposed in its August 11, 2014, order.

However since the apex court's orders didn't explicitly mention a ceiling on the height of human pyramids, the state government maintained that the high court order was not applicable anymore.

"People get hurt. We have heard Lord Krishna stealing makhan but we have not heard the Lord performing acrobatics", it said.

In August 2014, The High Court had ordered that children below 18 years should not be allowed to participate in the dahi handi function and the height of human pyramids should not exceed 20-feet.

The ASG, on his part, responded: "As a matter of fact, risk factor is there in every sport".

India´s top court on Wednesday banned children from taking part in a popular but potentially unsafe religious festival in the country´s west that sees young boys scale human pyramids.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court said that youngsters below the age of 18 years can not participate in Dahi Handi, synonymous with Janmashtami festival, in Maharashtra.

A bench headed by justice A K Sikri issued a notice to the state on the plea filed by Akhil Bharat Krishi Goseva Sangh challenging the part of the high court which had held the provisions of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) supremo Raj Thackeray today slammed the Supreme Court for its verdict on the Dahi Handi ritual of the Janmashtami festival and said that courts should not interfere in festivals.

The festival, known as the Dahi Handi festival, is celebrated to mark the Hindu god, Krishna's birthday.
