    A brace from David Villa led Barcelona to an incredible rout of Real Madrid - who lost for the first time under Jose Mourinho. Mourinho had gone unbeaten in his first 19 games in all competitions since joining Madrid in the summer, but the Portuguese was unable to avoid defeat in the biggest one of all as Pep Guardiola maintained his perfect record as Barca coach in the Clasico with a fifth straight victory over Real. Xavi and Pedro put Barca two up within 17 minutes, while Villa made it a night to remember at a packed Nou Camp with two goals early in the second half and substitute Jeffren Suarez added a fifth right at the end.

  2. Sangakkara Replaces Sachin Tendulkar as #1 Batsman

    Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara Monday replaced India’s Sachin Tendulkar to be the number one batsman in the International Cricket Council’s Test rankings. Sangakkara, who reached the top spot after scoring an impressive 150 runs against the West Indies in the ongoing home series, has 882 rating points in comparison to Tendulkar’s 859. Dashing Indian opener Virender Sehwag is at third place with 850 points.

Ayatollah Khamenei, the chief religious leader of Iran, who holds the final word in state affairs is a hardliner well-known to be hostile to America.     Dimitar Berbatov contributed to a record-breaking Saturday in the Barclays Premier League. The Bulgarian striker scored five times as Manchester United beat Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford, writes Stewart Coggin. The Swiss also won the coveted year-end championships in 2003 (d. Agassi) and 2004 (d. Hewitt) in Houston and again in 2006 (d. Blake) and 2007 (d. Ferrer) in Shanghai.
