  1. China, Pakistan Top Violators of Indian Air Space Since December 2007

    Indian air space has been violated 29 times by foreign aircraft during the period from December 2007 to November, 2010. These include 23 occasions by Pakistan, 1 by Bangladesh, 3 by China and 2 by USA.

    Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are in place for safeguarding Indian airspace, including by deployment of IAF aircraft. The matter is also taken up with the concerned country through diplomatic channels as per established procedure.

  2. USA, Japan, South Korea Ignore China

    The Japanese, South Korean and U.S. foreign ministers meet on Monday to plot strategy toward an increasingly provocative North Korea in the face of China’s reluctance to try to rein in its sometime ally. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton meets separately in the U.S. capital with South Korea’s Kim Sung-hwan and Japan’s Seiji Maehara before the three gather at 1 p.m. (1800 GMT) to discuss the North’s nuclear advances and its shelling of a South Korean island.

  3. China Warns United States on North Korea

    Chinese President Hu Jintao Monday warned U.S. President Barack Obama that tensions on the Korean peninsula could spiral out of control if not dealt with properly, their first discussion on the issue since the North shelled the South nearly two weeks ago. Analysts said Hu’s comments showed a greater sense of urgency in the Chinese leadership over the mounting tension and also an attempt to avoid to the perception that Beijing is siding with its ally Pyongyang to face off against the United States, Japan and South Korea whose foreign ministers meet later in the day to discuss the North Korea situation.

    AOL Inc, undergoing a radical transformation into the king of content on the Internet, is actively exploring a breakup involving a complicated series of transactions that may lead to a merger with Yahoo Inc, sources close to the plans told Reuters. The plans are still in the exploratory stage and Yahoo has not been contacted, the sources said. The plans are also fraught with complications involving myriad moving pieces.

  6. Heavy Rains in Columbia Kill 175; Millions Homeless

    The toll from weeks of heavy rains across Colombia has risen to 174 people dead and over 1.5 million homeless, the Colombian Red Cross said Saturday. Another 225 people have been injured and 19 were missing, Colombian Red Cross deputy director of operations Cesar Uruena told reporters. A total of 1,821 homes have been damaged or destroyed.
